The great Christmas Tree debate…
This weekend is the big ‘Christmas decoration’ weekend. Traditionally we get our tree from a fantastic nursery down the road and each year it is has got a little bigger and Nick a little prouder. However this year we are really torn – do we keep tradition alive with some impressive foliage but then have to ban Rory from the living room until January or, do we swallow our pride and go for a tiny tree/big branch and perch it on a table out of arms reach? A quick poll of my Mum friends suggests I would be a fool to opt for anything other than the latter, just got to sell it to Nick now…
Rory is getting set to be a sheep in the nursery nativity on Friday. My mother in law has created the most awesome outfit – it has ears, tail everything. The only problem is that Rory seems mortally afraid of it and won’t even come near it which is pretty tricky. Every night I am trying a ‘breaking in’ period, which basically involves me prancing around the living room in sheep ears to little effect except Rory’s hilarious laughter. I foresee last minute sheep slippers and cotton wool after all.
With the decorators out of the way Rory and I finally got ourselves organised to attend ‘storytime’ at the library and I have to say I was really impressed. Rory made a little hand painting; we had lots of books, some singing and a few toys. We were then sent away with a complimentary book, growth chart, colouring page and a Paddington bear balloon all courtesy of our local Surestart scheme. I understand the Surestart centres are faring badly in the budget cuts and I think it would be a real shame to see them go.
Its action stations on the social front again this weekend as we are hosting Christmas drinks for a few of our neighbours and local friends, principally to say thank you for bearing with us during the decoration process. I have finally managed to get all my Christmas cards sorted and posted and Sunday will be spent wrapping presents, losing labels and sellotaping my fingers together!
Keep warm, Emma & Rory x
Have a great week… Emma & Rory x
