Oooo ahhhhh…..
I am writing this with a STINKING cold, I have virtually lost my voice, my head is pounding with paint fumes and yet I am completely elated as the decorators are mere hours, ney, minutes from finishing! The feature wallpaper is up and looks fantastic (which is just as well as the husband commented it was a bold choice and, if it all went wrong, it would be completely my fault). Next week the carpet goes down, a few bits of electrical tinkering and we should be all done in time for our drinks party in December..
Rory management has been a complete nightmare since work started as I have sought to avoid him sticking to the gloss, falling down the stairs (no stairgates allowed) and spiking himself on the exposed carpet gripper rods. However, next week we can put together the playroom in all its glory and enjoy arts and crafts (carefully!) with impunity.
In other, non house related, news this week we took Rory and his friend Bert (with Bert’s Mum and Dad) to our local firework display. We were all a bit nervous that the boys would be terrified but they didn’t bat an eyelid as fireworks popped and exploded around them and the Cookham Dean village bonfire roared pretty much out of control (clearly no health & safety in operation here!). The evening started with a lantern procession around the green by the local children and various stalls served food and drink including a mighty fine mulled wine which made me feel all Christmassy…
Speaking of which, and bearing in mind my poor show for the nursery’s Halloween party, I have found Rory the cutest little star outfit (just £6 from Asda) and bought it so, whatever the Christmas play is this year, Rory will be going as a star… end of story….
Have a great week, Emma & Rory x

I want your kiss…..
Well I just can’t believe it is November and the countdown is on for Christmas, I feel exhausted just thinking about it – what an old scrooge! Rory had his little Halloween party at nursery this week and they were all instructed to dress up. Well I have been a very poor Mother, we have so busy with the decorating and various other things that I packed him off with a very basic pumpkin mask he purloined from his Jo Jingles class (and apparently broke within 5 minutes) and some balloons (for which I received a most disapproving look from one of his carers, apparently it massively over stimulates the children) … poor effort Mum! I was however encouraged to see that my friend Fi had been similarly tardy on the outfit front with her son Bert…
On the house front we have had a week off from the decorators although they are due to return next week to finish the job and will then be followed by the carpet fitter. I am very excited to say that the guy comes to fit our shutters this afternoon and restore our privacy – no more watching evening TV like a gold fish in a bowl; Nick can now snore and drool on the sofa (as is his wont) with impunity.
Rory continues to be a little bookworm and has added ‘Aliens love Underpants’ to his hit list. He is completely unashamed to ask visitors to sit and read to him and virtually devours the pages. We had a great swimming class this week with Rory really kicking and splashing on his own and feeling a lot more confident in the water; he keeps shrieking with excitement much to the disconcertment of the OAP slow lane!
This week Rory has also discovered kissing; great big slobbery wet kisses, it is just too cute for words. However, I think he is getting really fed up with Mum and Dad demanding constant affection and has gone on strike today, hopefully we will be back in business tomorrow…..
Take Care, Emma & Rory
