Post Pregnancy Shape Up
There’s nothing more annoying than seeing a new celeb mum squeezing back into her size 8 skinny jeans only a couple of months after giving birth. So what are the post-baby weight loss secrets of our favourite celebrities? And how can we get our bodies back in shape after pregnancy without having a personal trainer or nutritionist on speed dial?
The first thing you should do is check with your doctor when it’s safe to start exercising again and many GPs recommend waiting until your six-week check up. If you then decide to follow in celeb footsteps, see our top tips below as to what worked for them.
Yoga – Hollywood stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna swear by yoga to keep their bodies in shape and this is the perfect type of exercise after pregnancy as it tones and strengthens your body without being too physically demanding.
Baby Nap Express - After giving birth to baby Kai, busy mum Coleen Rooney followed a special ‘baby nap express workout’ as devised by her personal trainer, which involved doing 30 minutes of cardio exercise a day such as running, swimming or power walking.
Boot camp – Katie Holmes managed to shift her Suri baby weight through a tough boot camp regime involving running and weight-training.
Breastfeeding - Angelina Jolie claimed that breastfeeding and running around after so many kids all day helped her lose weight after Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
General exercise + healthy diet – TV presenter Kirsty Gallagher got back in shape by exercising for about 45 minutes at least three days a week doing a mixture of weights, cardio, rowing and interval training, whilst following a healthy diet of salads, protein, fish, beans and pulses. She then posed in a bikini for Fabulous magazine just fourteen weeks after giving birth to baby Jude and insisted that her photos were left untouched and not airbrushed – go Kirsty!
So, you may not have a full time nanny or personal trainer on hand to help but there are simple, easy ways to get back in shape in a natural and healthy way without having to spend thousands of pounds. Refreshingly some celebrities have a more relaxed approach to their post-pregnancy body, with Ulrika Jonsson claiming, ‘I refuse to have my first precious weeks with my two-month old son marred by insecurities over the way I look.’ We couldn’t have put it better ourselves Ulrika!
Unusual baby names
It’s official; the traditional baby names of yesteryear are taking a backseat to the more weird and wonderful thanks to a growing celeb trend. Unusual baby names have certainly been growing in popularity in Tinseltown in recent years. Whether it’s Apple Martin, Princess Tiaamii Price or Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, there’s no end to the outrageous names celebrity’s give their little ones.
Now, a report from the US reveals that us mere mortals are catching the bug with a recent poll revealing the most popular baby names are those taken from the Twilight saga with Jacob (Taylor Lautner’s character) and Bella (Kristen Stewart’s Twilight counterpart) topping the bill! Plus, the fastest rising name among boys is Cullen (as in Robert Pattinson’s nom de guere). We are all for following trends, but we’re not sure that we are quite ready to name our little one’s after vamps and ghouls – whether the celebrities approve or not. Give us a James, Henry or Victoria any day!
