Ode to Sunshine…
Oh Sunshine let me count the ways I love you!

How about all this glorious weather then….. it’s amazing how wonderful a bit of sunshine can make you feel. Now recovered from our hideous (and lengthy) flu thing Rory and I are taking every opportunity to be outside and spend most of our time kicking a ball in the park or collecting sticks on our walks…
Rory is developing the sweetest, and most hilarious, little personality. He has realised that he gets attention and lots of kisses if he hurts something, so, we will often see him looking over his body, checking hands, feet, and knees to see if there is anything resembling a cut that he can ham up into an accident requiring attention. About a week ago he fell over and scrapped his knee, 7 days on and he is still pointing it out and making me kiss it better!
Rory has rediscovered kissing and teddies in a big way; he is constantly trailing a bear, lion or zebra behind him and administering kisses so intense he looks like he is giving mouth to mouth to (the now very soggy) animals in his collection. Nick and I are also being showered with hugs and kiss, which I have to say it just gorgeous!
This week Rory has been on an eating frenzy. Having always steered clear of meat, preferring cheese or eggs, he managed, in one sitting, (admittedly we launched the BBQ season early) to eat one and a half sausages, 3 pieces of skewer chicken and a cheese sandwich. The other morning at breakfast he shovelled 3 and a half weetabix….
I am anticipating a growth spurt, although if he continues at this rate he’ll be about 6ft by his 2nd birthday…..
Enjoy the sunshine, Emma & Rory x
Nearly there…..
We are now a mere 24 hours (and a bit) away from take off for Cape Town and I couldn’t feel more stressed! I keep waking at 5am in a cold sweat wondering how on earth we are going to control a hyperactive toddler on a 12 hour flight and with visions of being ejected from the plane by a mob of angry travellers pushed to breaking point by Rory…..
I have bought new books, toys, colouring pencils and have packed enough snacks to keep an army marching for a month but I fear they may all be perused and discarded in a matter of minutes leaving the hours stretching ahead with no source of distraction. I just keep telling myself, it’s a night flight, he has to pass out at some point right?!?!
Just to make me even more nervous Rory took the opportunity of Granny’s birthday party this weekend to prove just how much energy he has, rugby tackling his (3 month older and playing quietly) cousin, much to his chagrin…. I think Rory has inherited my hectic nature and Nick’s physicality and it’s a lethal combination, especially on a plane!
Thinking positively however I am super excited to get to Cape Town and get Rory on the beach and modelling his new Summer wardrobe. When he was born Rory was sent a pair of baby havaianas from a friend of ours in Brazil and, fortuitously, they fit just in time for our holiday! Not the easiest to walk in but very cute to look at….
Have a great week, it’s supposed to start warming up…. Emma & Rory x
